Scott Simons got his first professional gig at 15, when his dad asked him to write theme music for WBOY. Since then, he’s toured the country, worked with major artists, and generally kept busy as a writer, performer, and recording artist.
He’ll make time in his schedule for a visit to his alma mater, West Virginia University, as part of the Alumni-in-Residence series in WVU’s College of Creative Arts. Simons will share his music industry experiences at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, in Bloch Hall, 220A Creative Arts Center.
Simons, who earned a degree in music composition in 1998, lives in Los Angeles. He’s currently half of a two-piece band, TeamMate, with drummer Dani Bucher. TeamMate has spent the last few years touring the U.S. with OneRepublic, Bleachers and Skyler Gray. Their music has been heard during ESPN’s Wimbledon coverage, NBC’s Sunday Night Football, and in various commercials.
He works behind the scenes and in front of the camera on “America’s Got Talent” and “The X-Factor,” and has worked as a musical director for actor-musician Drake Bell, “X-Factor” finalist Chris Rene, “The Voice” finalist Chris Mann, and “American Idol” finalist Megan Joy. He’s played keyboards for Leona Lewis, Aimee Mann, Lucy Woodward, and many more.
As a songwriter and producer, Simons has worked with artists from all over the world. “Stellar,” his recent collaboration with Italian pop DJ group Daddy’s Groove, hit the top of the Italian dance music charts. He also co-wrote “Another Break Up Song” with singer-songwriter Allen Stone.
Simons sings the Emmy-nominated theme song for Nickelodeon’s “Paw Patrol,” and he’s also sung the theme songs for Netflix’s “Veggie Tales,” Nickelodeon’s “The Thundermans,” and Esquire Natwork’s “Lucky Bastards.”
His visit is part of the College of Creative Arts Alumni-in-Residence series, featuring graduates of the Schools of Art and Design, Music, and Theatre and Dance.
