West Virginia University remains one of the top 100 public universities in the nation in the latest rankings published by U.S. News and World Report.

WVU is tied for 98th among public universities and tied for 175th among all national universities, which includes private schools. Both rankings, released Wednesday (Sept. 9), hold steady from last year when WVU was 93rd among public universities and 168th overall among national universities. The rankings, although lower, are not statistically significant changes, according to officials.

In addition, WVU Tech’s engineering program was ranked #58 in the nation on the report’s Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs rankings list. It marks an improvement in WVU Tech’s ranking – up more than 25 spots over last year. Among the more than 200 colleges and universities featured in the report, WVU Tech was among the top 25 public schools on the list.

“U.S. News & World Report’s rankings are based on information provided by the deans of accredited, quality engineering programs. We know our program is top-notch because we put enormous effort into making it so. We’re very excited that our peers in academia have acknowledged that effort,” WVU Tech Provost Dr. Nigel Clark said.

The publication also notes WVU is tied for 156th for best undergraduate business programs, tied for 108th for best undergraduate engineering programs at schools whose highest degree is a doctorate, and 220th for high school counselor rankings and 139th among best colleges for veterans.
