Mountaineer Nation has selected West Virginia University alumnus Steven Saab as the 2015 Ultimate Mountaineer Fan.

Following a week’s worth of voting, Saab edged out fellow finalist Layne Veneri for this year’s honor as the biggest and best Mountaineer fan on social media.

Saab, a 2015 WVU graduate with a bachelor of science in industrial engineering from Morgantown, received 50.2 percent of the vote, the highest percentage of the four finalists, which also included Veneri, Derek Farley and Caroline Hanson.

“We had several excellent entries for the contest, and our finalists were narrowed down by their WVU spirit and use of social media. Steven and Layne both did a great job campaigning for themselves,” said Nikki Goodenow, assistant director of WVU Trademark Licensing. “Steven will do a nice job documenting and sharing his trip to Oklahoma and his visit to Top of the World with fans during Mountaineer Nation Day.”

Saab will get the opportunity to showcase his pride on Mountaineer Nation Day on Oct. 3. He earned an expenses-paid trip for two to Norman, Oklahoma for the WVU/Oklahoma football game on Oct. 3. In addition, he receives a $500 American Express gift card, have the chance to visit Top of the World, WVU’s No. 1 headwear licensee, and design his own WVU hat.

Saab’s social media posts during his trip will also be showcased by official University social media accounts.

Today’s (Sept. 4) Ultimate Mountaineer Fan announcement coincides with College Colors Day, a day for WVU fans to show their support for the Mountaineers by wearing gold and blue.

WVU partnered with the Collegiate Licensing Company and Top of the World to present this year’s Ultimate Mountaineer Fan competition.
