West Virginia University President Gordon Gee recently returned to one of his favorite Mountain State towns, Welch—the place where he started his 55-county tour last summer.

This year, Gee is continuing to make his rounds throughout the state to share WVU’s story and to build upon its relationships with communities. In addition to visiting McDowell County last week, he made stops in Braxton, Clay, Kanawha, Logan and McDowell counties.

“I learned two things from being here last year,” Gee told a crowd of residents at the Riverside Caf and Bakery on Riverside Drive. “One is that West Virginians, no matter where they are, love West Virginia. The second thing is that they love West Virginia University.”

Gee’s stops on July 21 and 22 included Energy Express at Herndon Consolidated School, Herndon; the Second Street Station in Mullens; Chief Logan Lodge in Logan; Grumpy’s Waterfront Grille in St. Albans; the West Virginia Culture Center in Charleston; Clay County High School in Clay, and Braxton County High School and the Custard Stand, both in Sutton.

On this leg of the tour, Gee was accompanied by Honors College Dean Ken Blemings, School of Nursing Dean Tara Hulsey and several student leaders.
