4-H’ers are invited to climb, rappel and zip-line through the Mountain State during West Virginia University Extension Service’s 4-H Adventure Day, Saturday, Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in Glen Jean, W.Va.

The event calls on 4-H’ers to join in a day of exciting and unique outdoor adventure activities, according to WVU Extension 4-H Youth Development Camping Specialist Matthew Schmuck.

“This event is the first of its kind for our program, so youths will have an opportunity to learn new skills and take part in activities they’ve likely never been exposed to before,” said Schmuck. “They can move from one activity to the next, or they can spend the whole day at one location.

Activities include climbing; rappelling; bouldering; archery trap shooting; canopy touring; challenge courses; mountain biking; BMX track racing; skate plaza; archery range; sustainability treehouse; zip lining; wetlands trail experiences; tomahawk throwing; and visiting the CONSOL Energy Bridge.

Those who take a pre-checked swim test at their local YMCA will also have access to the water reality obstacle course, stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking.

“Outdoor education and adventure activities help challenge youth to explore new things and reach their full potential,” said Schmuck. “We’re excited to partner with the Boy Scouts to offer a whole new type of adventure and positive youth development.”

The cost is $55 for each participant, $25 for each chaperone, and includes a lunch. To register, visit bit.ly/4-HAdventureDays. The deadline to register is Friday, Aug. 7. For more information, contact Marsha Price at 304-293-7995 or mlprice@mail.wvu.edu.
