Steve Robinson, who has served as the registrar at West Virginia University since 2009, will be leaving for a new position effective July 31.

Robinson has been named assistant vice president for enrollment management and the chief of staff to the vice president for enrollment management at the University of Oregon. He is confident that WVU is well-positioned to maintain the high standards for both academic record-keeping and the integrity of the graduation certification process established during his tenure.

“I arrived at WVU six years ago with the goal of ensuring the high caliber of the academic record-keeping enterprise and positively changing the culture of the University,” Robinson said. “I believe we have done so to a level at which the campus can take a great deal of pride. This would not have been possible without the support of the Provost’s Office, the academic units, and the great team in the Office of the University Registrar. I know that the University will continue to build upon this great work and thrive.”

When Robinson was appointed registrar at WVU, the position and the office were new, intended to standardize and strengthen degree-granting practices and policies University-wide. Robinson committed to getting campus-wide buy-in for these initiatives by creating an advisory council, enlisting his staff in decision-making, and publicly articulating the positive role that a registrar’s office can and should have in maintaining the university’s high academic standards.

“Steve played a pivotal role in moving the university forward when we created the office of the university registrar,” said Provost Joyce McConnell. “He is a consummate professional who has demonstrated to the entire university how to adapt to rapidly changing student experiences without ever compromising our high academic standards. We wish Steve the very best in his new role and look forward to building further on the foundation he built as registrar.”

Provost McConnell expects to announce the appointment of an interim registrar within the next few days. The Provost’s Office will launch a search for a permanent university registrar this fall.
