Mary K. Stamatakis, Pharm.D., will serve as interim dean of the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy, effective Aug. 1.

Dr. Stamatakis currently serves associate dean for academic affairs and educational innovation in the School, a post she has held since 2007. She was appointed to the interim dean position by Clay Marsh, M.D., vice president for health sciences, to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of longtime dean Patricia Chase.

“Dr. Stamatakis has been a vital member of the leadership team in the School for more than a decade,” Dr. Marsh said. “Her efforts on behalf of our students, and the faculty who serve them, have contributed greatly to the School’s continuous improvements in teaching and learning. This success played a large part in the growing national recognition of WVU’s pharmacy programs, and in our students’ overall achievement.”

Stamatakis earned both bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in pharmacy from Ohio State University; she also completed an specialty residency in nephrology there. She joined the WVU faculty in 1993.
