West Virginia University will offer seven online courses to high school juniors and seniors this fall at a special introductory rate of $50 per credit hour through the ACCESS WVU Early College Program.

WVU has offered blended math classes in high schools with a facilitator for more than a decade. The expansion of this program to online courses in other disciplines allows students statewide the opportunity to earn college credits. The courses are: Introduction to Mass Media, Engineering Problem Solving, Engineering in History, Landmarks of World Art, Media & Society, 20th Century American Pop Music and Introduction to Native American Studies. Six of the seven courses meet general education curriculum requirements at WVU and all courses meet Quality Matters standards.

“Our goal is to better prepare students for college,” said Dr. Greg Strimel, director of K12 Initiatives in Academic Innovation. “They will interact with WVU faculty and other high school students in their courses while benefitting from the guidance of a student success coach.”

Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and the permission of their parent or guardian and high school principal or school counselor.

Enrollment is limited. Applications for the fall must be received by June 30. For details visit http://k12.wvu.edu/Access/Courses/ or call 1-800-253-2762.
