West Virginia University will welcome parents and family members to campus this weekend as part of Spring Family Weekend.

This annual event gives family members an opportunity to catch up with their students while enjoying fun activities on campus and in the Morgantown community.

“Spring Family Weekend is the ideal opportunity for parents to spend time with their student, meet his or her friends, and attend performances and sporting events on campus,” said Lisa Hanselman, associate director of the Mountaineer Parents Club.

On Friday, parents can attend class with their student, work out at the Student Recreation Center, shop at the bookstore and enjoy a game of billiards or bowling at the Mountainlair. The sports fans in the family can cheer on the WVU baseball team as they take on the Kansas Jayhawks at 6 p.m. at the new Monongalia County Ballpark or they can attend the men’s soccer alumni match scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. At 7:30 p.m. families can head over to the Creative Arts Center for the Pure Prairie League concert or the WVU School of Theatre and Dance presentation of the classic anti-war epic “Mother Courage and Her Children.”

On Saturday, family members can visit Cooper’s Rock State Forest, participate in the WVU Zip Canopy Tour, cheer on the women’s soccer team at 12 p.m. as they take on Ohio State, and attend the annual Gold-Blue Spring Football Game at 1 p.m. at the Milan Puskar Stadium. In addition, family members can enjoy the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s Beauty and the Beast at 1:30 p.m. at the Creative Arts Center.

On Sunday, family members will have an opportunity to attend Ring Day at 1:00 p.m. at the Erickson Alumni Center. Ring Day is held each spring and fall to present those students who have attained junior status with WVU class rings and to share the moment with family and friends.

The Mountaineer Parents Club is free and open to parents and family members of current, former and future WVU students. Some of the benefits include a toll-free helpline, newsletters, on and off-campus events, an interactive website and parent electronic news messages.
