WELLWVU is inviting all students to get moving and have fun before finals during their upcoming College Recess Days.

The new event, featuring music from DJ Dollar, will be held Thursday, April 23 from 5-7 p.m. on the Mountainlair Green and Friday, April 24 from 3-4:45 p.m. at the Evansdale recreation fields. Participants can join a scavenger hunt, play Frisbee, kickball, dodgeball, badminton, hula hoop, jump rope and hacky sack, among other activities.

“With final exams approaching, we want to remind students not to neglect their well being,” said Colleen Harshbarger, director of WELLWVU’s Office of Wellness and Promotion. “Being active improves cognitive functioning leading to clearer thinking and reduced anxiety and resulting in better performance on exams.”

Thursday’s recess will feature a two-on-two basketball tournament. Friday, WELLWVU will also announce the winner of the moveWELL social media contest. WVU students who follow and mention @WELLWVU on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook—and share how they #moveWELL—will be entered to win a FitBit donated by the WVU Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center.

“The event will be a great opportunity for students to get outside and have fun before going into finals,” said Charlie Harman, WELLWVU marketing graduate assistant. “Whether students are interested in individual or team-oriented activities, each day will have a little bit of something for everyone.”

The event is part of the moveWELL program that encourages WVU students to keep moving at least 30 minutes every day.
