West Virginia University’s College of Business and Economics announced today (April 16) that it has maintained its business school accreditation by AACSB International, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Additionally, B&E’s accounting program has been separately accredited with AACSB.

“AACSB accreditation is, without question, the international gold standard for business schools,” said Jose ‘Zito’ Sartarelli, B&E Milan Puskar Dean. “This is great news not only because it continues a designation this business school has held for more than six decades, but also because it demonstrates a commitment to excellence that is recognized around the world.”

B&E has held AACSB accreditation since 1954, making WVU one of 727 member institutions in 48 countries and territories that holds the designation. Less than five percent of the world’s business programs hold AACSB accreditation. Separately, the Accounting program has been accredited by AACSB since 1997, making B&E one of only 182 institutions around the globe to hold this specialized accreditation in accounting.

The reaccreditation process was spearheaded by Dr. Nancy McIntyre, senior associate dean, who also organized efforts for reaccreditation in 2010. “This process requires a lot of details,” she said. “We have a compelling story to tell because we really are taking WVU’s business school to the next level. The information we provided to AACSB demonstrates that.”

B&E currently enrolls approximately 2,200 undergraduate students in eight major areas of study and more than 420 graduate students in seven degree programs.

“Our faculty and staff help provide a world-class education for our students,” Sartarelli said. “Our affirmation of accreditation by AACSB implies that the school has made a true commitment to a cutting-edge curriculum taught by an outstanding faculty. We are producing extremely competitive, highly skilled people ready for the global marketplace, and our longstanding accreditation makes the degrees earned by our graduates more valuable every day.”
