Due to massive winter storm Thor and the continued treacherous road conditions around the state and region, West Virginia University’s main campus is canceling all classes and operations again Friday, March 6.

This is the second consecutive day for the weather-related closing. All classes and operations are expected to resume Monday, unless the weather dictates otherwise.

Some University operations will continue to function, including dining services, residence halls, roads and grounds and other essential operations. The PRT was expected to begin operation by 8 a.m. The Student Recreation Center will maintain its regular hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the Mountainlair will open at 7:30 a.m. today. WVUp All NIght will close at 2 a.m.

WVU Hospitals will remain open and third- and fourth-year School of Medicine students should report for clinic duties as assigned.

The WVU Libraries are open for limited services and hours today, March 6, 2015. The Ask a Librarian Chat service will be available. The Downtown Campus Library is open 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m.; the Evansdale Library is open from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. and the Health Sciences Library is open from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Other schedule changes include:

  • Dancing with our Mountaineer Stars, originally scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at the Mountainlair, has been postponed; it will be rescheduled for a future date.
  • The visit of Law School dean candidate Gary Simson has been postponed and will be rescheduled.

Other events will proceed as planned:

  • The Spinners concert, Creative Arts Center, 7:30 p.m., Lyell B. Clay Theatre
  • Garth Newel Piano Quartet, 7:30 p.m., Bloch Hall (200A), recital and master class, rescheduled from Thursday evening.
  • Opening Night of Arsenic and Old Lace,, 7:30 p.m., Gladys G. Davis Theatre,
  • The Decide WVU Day open house will continue as scheduled on Saturday, March 7, however families should use caution in making travel decisions. Call 304.293.3489 with questions.

The Office of the Registrar also has announced that midterm grading will be open through noon on Tuesday, March 10th.

Students, faculty and staff should stay tuned to local broadcast stations, WVU Web sites (www.wvu.edu, wvutoday.wvu.edu, www.mix.wvu.edu) and social media outlets (@WVUToday and @WestVirginiaU on Twitter and www.facebook.com/wvumountaineers on Facebook, for the latest information.

West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Montgomery will also remain closed.

The WVU Foundation also remains closed.

As always, faculty, staff and students should use good judgment when traveling in inclement weather.
