The West Virginia University School of Music choral area, under the leadership of Interim Director Kym Scott, will present a spring concert at the Creative Arts Center Saturday, Feb. 21.

The concert will begin at 3:15 p.m. in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre of the Creative Arts Center.

The concert will feature the WVU Women’s Chorus, the University Singers and the West Virginia Community Choir. Special guest will be the Fairmont State University Chamber Choir, conducted by Sam Spears.

The program will include works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, John Bennet, Emma Lou Diemer, David N. Childs, Seth Houston, John Williams, Cat Stevens, Lloyd Pfautsch, Anton Bruckner, Ola Gjeilo, Stephen Leek, Joseph Haydn, Eric Whitacre, Carl J. Nygard Jr., and more.

Kym Scott graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 1997 after completing a Bachelor of Music in piano performance. Her training at the Queensland Conservatorium included choral conducting studies with Dr. John Nickson. She received a Master of Music degree in 2010 from the University of Queensland and is currently completing her dissertation as part of her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Music at the University of Southern California. While at USC she conducted the USC Thornton Oriana Women’s Chorus as well as several performances with both the USC Thornton Concert Choir and the USC Thornton Chamber Singers. In 2013, she conducted members of the USC choirs in several performances with The Rolling Stones in Los Angeles and Anaheim during their “50 and counting” world tour. She finished her time at USC with a summer 2014 tour to China and South Korea.
