Proposals are now being taken for the second round of grants through an enrichment fund established by the Women of WVU organization.

The group was established last year by the West Virginia University Foundation to provide women who love the University another way to become involved using educational activities, networking opportunities and philanthropy.

“Women of WVU seeks to develop women leaders in philanthropy and inspire them to give of their time, talent and resources to support the University’s goals,” said Kristy Martin, program coordinator for the group and the WVU Foundation’s director of research and prospect management. “Those goals include enhancing educational achievement, global engagement, diversity, and the vitality and well-being of the people of West Virginia.”

The Women of WVU Enrichment Fund was established by the group’s leadership council to provide support funding for female students and programs affecting women at WVU. Individual grants of $2,500 and program grants of $5,000 are available. One each is awarded annually.

Individual grants can be used for costs associated with studying abroad, internships and conferences, but are not limited to these items. Program funds can be used for costs associated with focus groups, surveys or conference travel.

Applicants must submit a proposal stating the need and purpose for funding. For more information on how to apply, visit http://wvuf.org/womenofwvu. The deadline is March 31.

Martin said Women of WVU encompasses a new model of engagement and an understanding of how women’s motivation for giving will influence communication, marketing and fundraising strategies. Research supports the theory that gender differences in philanthropy are real, so new avenues will be pursued to connect and engage women as donors.

The Women of WVU Leadership Council includes Carolyn Blaney, honorary chair; Jo Statler, chair; Joyce Butler Allen; Malene Davis; Alison Deem; Pamela Maphis Larrick; Alexis Pugh; Sandra Johnson-Purdy; and Lisa Zuccari.

Membership for Women of WVU is $100. Dues are 100 percent tax deductible and support initiatives such as the enrichment fund. To join, email womenofwvu@wvuf.org or call 304-284-4021.
