Someone’s celebrating the big 1-4-8.

On Feb. 7, 1867, the West Virginia Legislature created the Agricultural College of West Virginia – what we know and love today as West Virginia University.

To commemorate WVU’s 148th birthday, President Gordon Gee treated thousands to a surprise during halftime of the WVU-Baylor men’s basketball game Saturday at the Coliseum.

Gee wheeled out an almost-”bigger than the PRT”-sized gold-and-blue birthday cake, led the Pep Band into a rendition of “Happy Birthday” and then shared the sweet treat with fans.

With the help of WVU Dining Services, Gee got his hands dirty in the kitchen crafting the perfect cake.

Check out his culinary quest here.
