West Virginia University students will have an opportunity to have fun in the snow and try out new winter activities on campus this week.

WELLWVU’s Office of Wellness and Health Promotion is hosting a Winter Try-It on Thursday (Feb. 5) from 8-10 p.m. and Friday (Feb. 6) from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on the Mountainlair Green.

This outdoor event will feature cold weather sports activities offered free of charge by the WVU Outdoor Rec Center. During the event, students can try snowshoeing, cross country skiing and hockey. WELLWVU is also offering a creativity zone for snow sculptures, snow graffiti and free hot chocolate. Participants will have an opportunity to meet the WVU hockey team on Thursday evening.

Regardless of whether there is natural snow or not, the event will take place as planned.

While Winter Try-It is the first of its kind, WELLWVU held a warm-weather version last semester which included kayaking, canoeing and cycling, among other activities.

“Winter Try-It is a great opportunity for students to try outdoor activities that are locally available to WVU students,” said Charlie Harman, WELLWVU marketing graduate assistant. “Whether it’s through cross country skiing or ice skating, we want to act as a catalyst to drive students outside during the winter months to live more active lifestyles.”

Students are reminded to bring their WVU Student ID for equipment rental.
