UPDATE: Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 247 Willey St. in Morgantown, will hold a memorial service in celebration of Burch’s life on Thursday (Nov. 20) at 10 a.m. The WVU community is welcome to attend and all baptized Christians are welcome to receive Communion.

Due to inclement weather conditions in the Buffalo, New York, area, West Virginia University has canceled plans to provide buses for students on Thursday (Nov. 20) to the funeral service for former student Nolan Burch, who passed away on Friday (Nov. 14).

Snow was still falling in Buffalo this morning, a day after a major lake-effect snow event dumped up to 60 inches of snow in the area. As a result, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency for 10 counties, including Erie County. The Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 11 p.m. this evening (Nov. 19) until 1 a.m. Friday (Nov. 21). Due to near-zero visibility and deep snow cover on roads, any WVU students traveling to Buffalo are urged to use extreme caution.

WVU will hold a bell-ringing ceremony in remembrance of Burch when students return from Thanksgiving Recess.

Burch’s funeral service will held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church in Buffalo, New York.

Burch, 18, was a freshman majoring in pre-sport management from Williamsville, New York.
