This coming Wednesday, Oct. 22, West Virginia University will celebrate National Campus Sustainability Day along with hundreds of other colleges and universities across the country to help promote a sustainable lifestyle on college campuses.

WECAN, WVU’s Office of Sustainability, will be celebrating the event by hosting games, giveaways, the opportunity to take a sustainability pledge and more.

“Campus sustainability day is a great opportunity to raise awareness and engage faculty, staff, and students on the many ways that they can incorporate sustainability in their daily routine,” said Stephanie Toothman, interim conservation specialist. “We really encourage everyone to come by and see the opportunities we have been working on for WVU to be a more sustainable campus.”

The event will be held at two different times and locations: from 11 a.m.-2p.m. in the Mountainlair and from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Student Rec Center. Some of the activities will include games and prizes, a photo booth for students to take the sustainability pledge and more.

Also available at each location will be the program’s Eco-Reps, who are the student ambassadors for the Office of Sustainability. The reps will be there to meet students, answer any questions and inform faculty, staff and students of the many different sustainable practices currently in place at WVU.

“Our reps each have residence halls that they work in weekly, but this day is an opportunity for them to reach the greater WVU population and for everyone to see what great projects and initiatives they are working on for the university,” Toothman said.
