West Virginia University music faculty member Michael Ibrahim will present a saxophone recital with pianist Liz Ames at the Creative Arts Center, Saturday, Oct. 18.

The concert begins at 5 p.m. in Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (200A) and is titled “Soviet Saxophone Sonatas.”

The program will feature “Brillance” (1974) by Ida Gotkovsky (b. 1933); “Sonatine Sportive” (1939) by Alexandre Tcherepnine (1899-1977); “Hot Sonata” (1930) by Erwin Schulhoff (1894-1942); and “Sonate” (1970) by Edison Denisov (1929-1996).

Ibrahim is a soloist, collaborator, and clinician active throughout the United States and internationally. At the center of New York City’s contemporary music scene, Ibrahim has performed as a soloist and with numerous ensembles in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, Miller Theater, Symphony Space, and the Kitchen. Ibrahim earned his doctorate at the Manhattan School of Music and also studied Bowling Green State University, the Universit� Europ�enne de Saxophone in France, the University of Calgary, and the University of Regina. He has performed throughout North America, France, Russia, Italy, Germany, Austria and Holland.
