The West Virginia University Division of Student Life is proud to announce Summer Ratcliff and Zak Marra as the 2014 recipients of the Herman L. Moses Scholarship. Each year, the scholarship benefits one male and one female undergraduate or graduate student employed as student workers in Student Life.
Ratcliff, an integrated marketing communications graduate student from Bunker Hill, is a graduate assistant for Mountainlair Programming and Special Events. Marra, a senior sport management major from Clarksburg, is the assistant supervisor of Mountainlair Night Operations.
“As professionals working in the Division of Student Life, we rely so heavily on the students that we not only serve, but those that work alongside of us,” Moses said. “No matter what these students are doing for their job, it is inspiring to see so many of them gain experiences that help them grow professionally and personally.”
The family of the late Dr. Carl R. Adkins established the scholarship in honor of Moses in 2012. Moses devoted 36 years of his professional life to working with WVU students and their families before retiring in 2003. Both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree were earned at WVU.
“We are very lucky to have such amazing students working in Student Life,” said Lisa Hanselman, scholarship selection committee member and associate director of the Mountaineer Parents Club. “This is a great reminder that their hard work does not go unnoticed and that we recognize their efforts.”
The gift is in conjunction with A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University. The $1 billion fundraising effort by the WVU Foundation on behalf of the University runs through December 2017.
