West Virginia University welcomes the top academic officers from Big 12 athletic conference schools for their once-a-semester meeting Monday (Sept. 29).

“I’m thrilled to be hosting my colleagues from the Big 12 here on campus and to show them the spectacular spaces we’ve created as well as the breath-taking natural scenery of Appalachia,” WVU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Joyce McConnell said. “WVU is a special place and it’s going to be fun to show it off!”

The group gathers at a member institution every semester to discuss higher education issues and the challenges and opportunities for land-grant institutions in the 21st century. The host school also showcases some of its most exciting spaces, faculty, students, and programs.

The group will meet in the morning with President Gordon Gee in the newly renovated and expanded College of Law, then go on a hike at Cooper’s Rock and visit the WVU Outdoor Education Center. In the afternoon, they will meet for discussion sessions in the Wise Library. They will hear about numerous WVU academic programs and initiatives.

Scheduled to attend were:

  • Lawrence Schovanec, Texas Tech University
  • David Garland, Baylor University
  • April Mason, Kansas State University
  • Bonnie Melhart, Texas Christian University (representing Provost Nowell Donovan)
