Get helpful, healthful answers and advice about diabetes-friendly recipes and the Dining with Diabetes program from West Virginia University Extension Service experts during an “Ask the WVU Extension Service Expert” live, online Q&A session.

The session, which takes place on Wednesday (Sept. 24) from noon to one, will provide information and advice to those with diabetes and those living with people who have diabetes. The session takes place on WVU Extension’s Facebook.

Participants can also submit questions before the session starting on Monday. Look for the “Ask in Advance” image on the Facebook page.

A panel of three WVU Extension Families and Health faculty members will be available to answer user submitted questions during the hour-long session.

“Diabetes affects many people throughout West Virginia, both directly and indirectly,” said Cindy Fitch, WVU Extension Service Families and Health program director. “Extension seeks to educate people with diabetes and their family members about lifestyle choices, which include healthy eating, physical activity and diabetes self-management.”

Fitch is a registered dietitian and nutritionist with more than 30 years of experience working with people of all ages, and can offer guidance and advice about healthy food and proper nutrition. She can also answer questions about a variety of topics, such as maintaining a proper diet to prevent or manage diabetes.

WVU Extension’s Greenbrier County Families and Health Agent, Kay Davis, can answer questions about diabetes nutrition and provide healthy recipes. Lesley Woodrum, WVU Extension’s Summers County Families and Health agent will also be available during the session to answer questions pertaining to Extension’s Dining with Diabetes program and other diabetes related nutrition topics.

The next session of “Ask the WVU Extension Service Expert” will be on Wednesday (Oct. 1) and will host a panel of Extension’s 4-H faculty and staff to answer questions about joining West Virginia 4-H.

“Ask the Expert” sessions will happen periodically throughout the fall to cover the topics of breast cancer awareness, preparing gardens for winter, Venison 101 and holiday food and safety.
