The West Virginia University Building at the West Virginia State Fair offers visitors a chance to picture themselves as everything from doctors and engineers to farmers and business executives.

The WVU Building is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the exception of the final day of the fair when the building closes at 5 p.m. Exhibits will be open Aug. 8-16 in Fairlea.

Visitors to the WVU exhibits can explore options for going to college, financing their education, connecting with alumni and learning about different majors.

Daily prize drawings happen at noon and 6 p.m.

A new aspect of the fair is the daily WVU Selfie Challenge. Visitors can check WVU Extension Service’s social media accounts for the day’s challenge, visit that exhibit, snap a selfie and tag it #wvufairfun for a chance to win WVU prizes.

On Wednesday (Aug. 13) at noon, WVU Extension Service will host a live and online Q&A session on canning and preserving foods during an Ask the WVU Extension Service Expert session. People can visit the WVU Building for in-person advice, or log on to WVU Extension’s Facebook page at home to submit questions to be answered in real-time by canning experts.

On Thursday (Aug. 14) WVU Mountaineer Mascot Michael Garcia and WVU President Gordon Gee will visit the WVU Building in the morning. A limited supply of WVU Extension Service 100th anniversary t-shirts will be distributed on the front porch of the building while supplies last. The shirts are available in adult sizes only and are offered one per customer on a first come, first served basis.

Fairgoers can also check out interactive exhibits from various other departments and colleges including WVU Extension, Academic Innovation, Admissions, the College Business and Economics, the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design, the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, the Health Sciences Center, Physics and Astronomy, Student Life, University College RBA, the Center for Excellence in Disabilities and the Clinical and Pharmacologic Research Center.

The West Virginia Association of Counties, West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office, WVU Potomac State, WVU Tech and Zides Sports Shop will also be in the building.
