In an effort to make West Virginia University’s new Mountaineer Summer Drawing Academy more accessible and affordable to budding artists and teens in the state, the University is offering a shorter session at a discounted rate.

The Drawing Academy will take place July 24 – 26, in Morgantown and is open to teens ages 14 – 17. The cost for the camp is $75 thanks to scholarships and donations that have offset the original fee for the camp. The camp is limited to 40 participants.

Teens will participate in activities that will enhance their ability to understand space, place, perspective and structure while honing artistic skills.

Campers will learn traditional drawing techniques like value and perspective but also incorporate techniques learned while participating in field trips to places on WVU’s Morgantown campuses.

Participants will experience programs similar to those that first-year college art students complete. They can also learn about college from their camp counselors who are WVU students.

The camp is a partnership between the WVU Extension Service 4-H Youth Development Program and the WVU College of Creative Arts.

To apply, visit 4-hyd.ext.wvu.edu/events_forms/mountaineer-summer-drawing-academy, or contact your local WVU Extension Service county agent.

Priority deadline to apply is Monday, July 7.
