West Virginia University Theatre graduate Jamie Froemel has joined the WVU College of Creative Arts as the new recruiting specialist.

Froemel, who was the outstanding graduate of the College of Creative Arts in 2006, began working with Dean Paul Kreider and Assistant Dean for Recruiting & Retention John Hendricks, on March 31.

“We had a number of excellently qualified candidates for this position and we are so fortunate to have Jamie Froemel join the College of Creative Arts team,” said College of Creative Arts Dean Paul Kreider. “His experience working in university admissions and recruiting will prove beneficial to all faculty and staff in the College as we move toward achieving our 2020 enrollment goals. As a bonus, we are able to welcome Jamie back home.”

Froemel graduated from the WVU School of Theatre and Dance in 2006 with a BFA in acting. After graduation he worked with the Greenbrier Valley Theatre in Lewisburg as an actor/educator before moving to Charleston, S.C.

In 2008 he relocated to Martinsburg, W.Va., where he began working in higher education as a recruiter. The following year he moved to Princeton, W.Va. and has since worked in roles involving student retention, student services, advising and financial aid.

He received his Masters of Science in Strategic Leadership in 2011 and has taught business, leadership and, most recently, Introduction to Theatre.

Jamie said he is thrilled to be back at Creative Arts Center. During his time here he performed in a number of shows and also had the chance to see his own work produced on stage. He met his wife, the former Katie Bishop, (a 2007 WVU Theatre grad) at the CAC in 2005 and this year they will celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary. They have two sons, Jack, who is 4, and Noah, 4 months old. The entire family is very excited about the move to Morgantown.

“It’s great to be back,” Froemel said. “Having been away from Morgantown for a while, it’s amazing to see how much the College of Creative Arts and the University have grown. My experience here as a student was nothing short of amazing, and the skills I developed and the friendships I made continue to benefit me every day. I am thrilled to be in a position where I get to talk to new students about all the College of Creative Arts has to offer them.”

Froemel’s credits on the main stage at WVU included Alonzo in “The Tempest”, The Steward in “Into the Woods,” and Shane in “Bleeding in the Dark.” Three of his written works were produced by WVU LAB Theatre, including “All Sales Final,” “The War in the Garden,” and “The Currency of Cranes.”

While he was a student at WVU, Jamie also both performed and had his written work produced at the Williamstown Theater Festival where he played Shooter in the play “Action,” and directed “All Sales Final.” Following his graduation in 2006, he made his professional debut at Greenbrier Valley Theater in a production of “The Diary of Anne Frank.”
