It’s hard to believe seniors will soon be donning their caps and gowns in celebration of their graduation from West Virginia University.
Before turning their tassels, graduating seniors are invited to attend the popular Senior Send-Off: A Zero-Year Reunion which will be held on Sunday, April 13, from 5-8 p.m. at The Erickson Alumni Center.
This Send-Off is a special event, hosted by the WVU Alumni Association and the WVU Division of Student Affairs, to celebrate the hard work of our soon-to-be-alumni and provide an opportunity to reminisce with friends before moving on to the next chapter in their lives. The event will feature music by DJ Ernesto Waines, an interactive photo experience, great food and prizes, including season tickets to WVU basketball and football, as well as other items.
The first-ever Senior Class Cornhole Tournament will be held as part of the festivities. (The tournament is limited to the first 16 teams to register). Also new this year is a bow-tie-tying contest in honor of WVU President E. Gordon Gee. Students interested in participating in the contest should bring their own bow tie (B.Y.O.B.T.) and register at the event.
“Each year we enjoy seeing our seniors come together to celebrate the completion of college and earning their degree,” said vice president for Student Affairs Ken Gray. “It’s a time to reminisce with friends and participate in their first alumni event.
“For many, this may be the last time they are able to get together with classmates before starting a new job or heading off to graduate school. We’re pleased to join with the Alumni Association to host this event for them and celebrate their outstanding accomplishments.”
The event also will feature interactive displays, a cap decorating station where seniors can add a little glitz to their graduation caps, and a Class of 2014 mat signing (to be framed and housed at The Erickson Alumni Center). The Send-Off is free and open to all graduating seniors.
Now in its 15th year, the “reunion” also serves as an opportunity for seniors to get their first glimpse of life as WVU alumni. The WVU Alumni Association’s new grad webpage offers insights into life after graduation, as well as tips on how to stay connected to their alma mater, no matter where they may live. Graduating seniors will be able to “pin” their location after graduation on a special alumni map, learn more about alumni benefits, and share their “one” word to describe their WVU experience.

Douglas, president and CEO, WVU Alumni Association. “As these new grads get ready to begin the next chapter in their lives, it is our role as an alumni association to keep them connected to and engaged in the life of WVU – no matter where they may live. We look forward to giving them a sneak peek of life after WVU by welcoming them into our alumni home.”
