The West Virginia University Alumni Association’s Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund Board of Trustees has appointed Vaughn L. Kiger as its newest member of the Trust Committee.

Kiger, a 1966 graduate of the WVU Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, is past president of the Morgantown Branch of Old Colony REALTORS. He has strong ties in the banking industry and is a member of the Board of Directors of WesBanco Inc., a Wheeling-based bank holding company where he also serves on the Executive Committee.

Kiger possesses a long, distinguished career of service to WVU and the state of West Virginia, residing and excelling in his work within the state for more than 48 years. His service to WVU remains unwavering. He served six years on the WVU Alumni Council (now WVU Alumni Board of Directors), serving one year as president; he served six years on the WVU Board of Advisors, serving one year as chairman; and five years on the WVU Board of Governors, serving one year as chairman.

“We are fortunate to have someone with Vaughn’s expertise joining the LEPF Trust Committee,” said Stephen L. Douglas, President and CEO of the WVU Alumni Association and executive secretary of the fund. “He has been a great friend to WVU and is very passionate about providing students with the resources they need to be successful at WVU. We look forward to hearing his ideas on how we can continue to grow this scholarship fund to provide even more financial assistance for these outstanding students.”

Kiger attended the University of Virginia and completed the Graduate REALTORS Institute program. He previously served in various leadership positions, including president of the Morgantown Board of REALTORS, chairman of the West Virginia Real Estate Commission, and president of the West Virginia Association of REALTORS. He was appointed to the West Virginia Real Estate Commission by governors John D. Rockefeller IV, W. Gaston Caperton, Cecil H. Underwood and Joe Manchin III.

Kiger has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the local community where he has received numerous awards, including REALTOR of the Year (1987), Phi Sigma Kappa Outstanding Alumnus (1991), Distinguished West Virginian (1984 and 1994), WVU Alumni Association’s Outstanding Alumnus (2002), and Order of Vandalia (2006)—WVU’s highest award for outstanding service.

Kiger has held multiple foundation memberships with the Greater Morgantown Community Trust, Mary Virginia Brown Foundation, Geo. D. Hott Foundation and Delta Foundation, Inc.

Kiger, who replaces long-time trustee, the late James H. “Buck” Harless, lives in Morgantown with his wife, Meredith, a three-time graduate of WVU. The couple has three adult children: Adrian, Elliott and Miles.

For more than 75 years, the WVU Alumni Association’s Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund has helped more than 4,000 deserving students realize their dreams at WVU. The fund is a contributing source of funds to the WVU Scholars Program. The fund was established in 1937 by the WVU Alumni Association and has nearly $13 million in assets.
