West Virginia University students have elected new Student Government Association leaders. Chris Nyden, a senior economics major from Charleston, was elected president. He will become the student representative on the WVU Board of Governors. Jake Evans, a senior political science major from Martinsburg, was named vice president.

The election was held at various locations across campus Tuesday through Thursday (March 4-6). The winners were announced Thursday evening in the Mountainlair.

The board consists of a president, vice president, a board of 15 governors and two athletic councilors. All elections results have been certified by the SGA Judicial Board.

Students elected to the SGA board of governors in order of votes received: Chelsea Malone, a senior finance major; Julie “Jules” Merow, a freshman advertising major; Liz Barnhart, a sophomore mining engineering major; Joy Wang, a sophomore biochemistry major; Cody Mullens, a junior biology major; Amanda Hutchinson, a sophomore sport and exercise psychology major; Hayley Harman, a sophomore psychology, biology and Spanish triple-major; Stephen Scott, a sophomore political science major; Dustin Seabolt, a freshman political science major; Quenton King, a criminology, Spanish and Latin American studies triple-major; Nick Naum, a senior accounting and finance double-major; Matt “Frosty” Brow, a junior international studies major; Ansh Kumar, a junior petroleum engineering major; Patrick Clarke, a freshman journalism major; and Michael Ibekwe, a first-year graduate student in public health.

Students elected to the SGA athletic council in order of votes received: Ashley Morgan, a junior sport and exercise psychology major; and Andrew Sutherland, a sophomore political science and communications studies double-major.

Those elected by the student body on Thursday (March 6) will take over following an inauguration on April 5 at 5 p.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms at which point they will take over for the current administration.
