Lauded for their “intelligence” and “immensely satisfying” playing by The New York Times, the Amernet String Quartet has garnered worldwide praise and recognition as one of today’s exceptional string quartets. Ensemble-in-Residence at Florida International University in Miami since 2004, the group was formed in 1991 while its founding members were students at the Juilliard School. Amernet quickly rose to international attention after their first season, winning the gold medal at the Tokyo International Music Competition, before being named first prize winners of the prestigious Banff International String Quartet Competition.

The Amernet’s busy performance schedule has taken the quartet across the Americas and to Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. They have collaborated with many of today’s most prominent artists and ensembles including the Tokyo, St. Lawrence, and Ying quartets. The Amernet Quartet has conducted workshops and master classes in Buffalo, Erie, Los Angeles, Memphis, and New Orleans, to name a few. They have also held residencies at numerous institutions including Columbia, Penn State, and Western Illinois universities and at Antioch and Williams colleges. They founded the Norse Festival, a summer chamber music workshop at Northern Kentucky University, and currently host an annual summer chamber music camp in Miami called Animato.

This intimate performance will also feature Barber’s famous “Dover Beach” and Daron Hagen’s “Alive in a Moment,” a work specially commissioned for the Amernet. The South Florida Review raves of Amernet’s “rapid fire interplay,” delivering a show “polished to a level of high voltage brilliance, producing a performance of glowing incandescence.”

Paul Kreider, dean of the WVU College of Creative Arts, baritone, will join the ensemble on stage in a special performance. Kreider’s many performing credits include numerous roles with the Lyric Opera of Chicago for six seasons, and principal baritone with the Landestheater Salzburg for three years. In addition, Kreider has appeared throughout the world with world-renowned singers, conductors, and stage directors at the Vienna State Opera, Maggio Musicale in Florence, Atlanta Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, National Opera of Slovenia, Rome, Santa Fe, and Tokyo, Japan.

His symphonic credits include the Great Woods Festival, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Austria’s Mozarteum Orchestra, Illinois Symphony, Kentucky Symphony and the Tucson Symphony. With the Las Vegas Philharmonic and the New Mexico Symphony Kreider performed Off’s “Carmina Burana.” Most recently Kreider appeared with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra in Edward Collins’ “Daughter of the South.”
