With the worst of winter storm Titan having passed through the area Sunday and into Monday, West Virginia University will resume classes and normal operations at 6 a.m. Tuesday (March 4).

As communicated in the past, however, students and employees should use good judgment when traveling to work or class in inclement weather. When weather conditions prevent employees from getting to work or getting to work on time, they should notify their supervisor as soon as possible and prior to the start of a shift.

Supervisors are asked to work with employees who feel they need to leave work early or come in late due to weather conditions. Employees who do not work their full scheduled shift may take annual leave, compensatory time off, or at the supervisor’s discretion, may be permitted to make up those hours within the same work week. Any questions about scheduling issues should be addressed to an employee’s supervisor.

Similarly, students should communicate with faculty – and faculty with students – when weather interrupts class schedules. In particular, if students cannot get to class because of adverse weather conditions, they should contact their instructors as soon as possible. In these circumstances, faculty are urged to take the situation into account relative to required attendance policies and tests or quizzes that are scheduled. If faculty are unable to get to class, they are also encouraged to notify their students as soon as possible, through the many means at their disposal, so that students do not embark on unnecessary travel.
