A new textbook edited by West Virginia University’s Guodong Guo, assistant professor of computer science and electrical engineering, focuses on current developments in the field in support of the Support Vector Machines.

Support Vector Machines, a powerful, state-of-the-art algorithm with strong theoretical foundations, have both a solid mathematical background and good performance in practical applications.

“Support Vector Machines Applications,” edited by Guo and Yunqian Ma, a senior principal research scientist at Honeywell Labs, focuses on the recent advances and applications of the Support Vector Machines in different areas.

“In this book, readers can find detailed information on applications of the Support Vector Machines to solve many real-world problems, such as robotics, security, health, biomedical, transfer learning, object recognition, computer vision and biometrics,” said Guo. “SVM had broad applications in many areas, but no book has covered the applications systematically. That was the motivation for our book.”

This is Guo’s first textbook.
