Outstanding string musicians from high schools in West Virginia and surrounding states are taking part in West Virginia University’s annual High School Honor Orchestra, Feb. 27-March 1.

The students will present a concert at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 1, in the Creative Arts Center’s Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre.

Directed by WVU Symphony Orchestra Conductor Mitchell Arnold, the concert is free and open to the public.

Students in grades 9-12 from West Virginia and surrounding states attend WVU High School Honor Orchestra. They are selected by their school music directors in orchestra, band, or chorus.

Activities include auditions for all participants, full orchestra and sectional rehearsals and master class sessions, focus on developing music and ensemble skills, a concert by the WVU Symphony Orchestra, and the final concert by the Honors Orchestra, where they will be joined by members of the WVU Symphony Orchestra. The concert will include performances of works specifically for each string section.
