West Virginia University students looking for an exciting internship or a way to enjoy the great outdoors while making money this summer are encouraged to attend “The Summit – High Adventure Base Internship and Summer Job Fair” today (Feb. 12) from noon to 6 p.m. in the Vandalia Lounge of the Mountainlair.
The Career Services Center and the Boy Scouts of America will be on hand to discuss opportunities available this summer at The Summit Bechtel Reserve Camp, located in Mount Hope near Beckley.
“The Summit is looking for hard-working, adventurous and highly skilled Mountaineers to fill their talent pipeline,” said Sarah Glenn, assistant director of the WVU Career Services. “Opportunities range from aquatics director to skate park manager to camp support services. Not only has The Summit brought a world-class outdoor recreational facility to West Virginia, it is providing tremendous experiential learning opportunities for our students.”
The 10,600-acre park, managed by the National Council of the Boys Scouts of America, has more than five miles of zip lines, a whitewater-rafting circuit, a 120-foot tree house, stadium for 85,000 people and is the home of the National Boy Scout Jamboree.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for any WVU student that loves the outdoors and is interested in paddling, peddling, climbing or shooting,” said Dave Durham, director of the Career Services Center. “Unlike traditional summer camp jobs, The Summit – High Adventure staff hopes to match students with opportunities so that the experience is meaningful as well as fun and exciting.
“We want our interns to gain tangible career-related skills such as leadership, communications and time-management that will contribute to building a strong resume.”
