West Virginia University’s Festival of Ideas presentation scheduled for tonight (Feb. 5) has been canceled. Due to inclement weather in the Midwest, Angela Davis is not able to complete her travel to Morgantown.

“Free Angela and All Political Prisoners,” a recently released feature-length documentary about the life and times of Davis will be screened instead. The film will be shown tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms. A reception will follow and Davis’ books will be available for purchase at the event.

“Free Angela” is a gripping film that outlines the high-stakes crime, political movement and trial that catapulted Davis from a 26 year-old, newly appointed philosophy professor at the University of California, Los Angeles into a revolutionary political icon of the 1970s. For the first time, Dr. Davis speaks frankly about the actions that branded her a terrorist and simultaneously spurred a worldwide political movement for her freedom.

Festival of Ideas regrets the cancellation and looks forward to bringing Davis to campus in the future.
