The committee in charge of searching for West Virginia University’s next president began its work Friday (Jan. 17), as Chair James W. Dailey II thanked the members for their investment of time and energy, saying “we have a daunting task ahead” and calling it “one of the most important jobs this university has over the next 10-20 years as we fulfill our strategic plan.”

Dailey had each of the 20 members sign a confidentiality agreement, along with support staff, and Rob Lyons, director of affirmative action and equal opportunity, reviewed the committee’s responsibility to give special consideration to underrepresented groups – women, minorities, veterans and those with disabilities.

Following the announced departure of Jim Clements in November, E. Gordon Gee was named president for a term while a search for a permanent leader takes place. An executive search firm will be selected in the near future to help with the process.
