West Virginia University students and staff are traveling to Charleston on Monday to live out Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of service and unity.

Students will meet at 7 a.m. at Stansbury Hall and buses will transport them to two sites. One group will attend the Martin Luther King Jr. State Holiday Commission’s Celebration at the Capitol, which includes an ecumenical service at 10:30 a.m., a bell ringing for peace at 12:30 p.m. and an awards luncheon at 1 p.m.

A second group of students will visit the West Side neighborhood of Charleston to perform community service. The community service is in conjunction with WVU’s West Side Rising participation in the West Side Revitalization Project, one of many ongoing service projects planned for that neighborhood. Students can receive up to 8 hours of community service that day.

Both groups will attend the Unity in the Community Concert at 3 p.m. at the Capitol before heading back to Morgantown that afternoon. Plans are to return to Morgantown in time so those interested in attending the Center for Black Culture and Research Silver Anniversary Gala can attend.

If you’re a WVU student and wish to participate, you can sign up here on iServe. Student organizations can participate as a group by contacting Leah Cunningham at Leah.Cunningham@mail.wvu.edu
