The West Virginia University School of Art & Design will present its first Juried Student Exhibition during Nov. 6-15 in the Creative Arts Center’s Douglas O. Blaney Lobby.

This exhibition features 31 works of art selected from 96 student entries, including ceramics, photography, sculpture, printmaking, graphic design, painting, drawing, video, and animation.

The opening reception for the Juried Student Exhibition will take place Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 5 p.m., at which time the awards will be announced.

All events are free and open to the public.

This year’s juror was Carol Hummel, an Ohio-based artist known for her large-scale, site-specific projects. She generates intense communal experiences while creating her art by involving family members, friends, neighbors and strangers in the creative process. In Morgantown, she worked with students and community members to cover a large tree on the Evansdale Campus with crocheted yarn to celebrate 2013 as “The Year of the Tree.” In addition, her works are currently on view in the Laura Mesaros Gallery at the CAC through Dec. 10.

Monetary awards include a $300 award for Best in Show, two $200 College of Creative Arts Dean’s Purchase Awards; and $100 awards for Juror’s Choice, the School of Art & Design Director’s Choice, and the Judy Raese Arts Award.
