West Virginia University students and instructors will have a chance to relax during a new fall break on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 14-15). All residence halls will stay open, however classes will not be held on those two days.

Fall break was designed to give students a break from classes in the middle of a busy semester. It will also enable some students to catch up on their studies, work and sleep – to allow them to get back on track for the remainder of the semester.

“The break will give students an opportunity to re-energize, refocus and commit to achieving academic success,” said Elizabeth Dooley, dean of the University College and associate provost for Undergraduate Academic Affairs. “It is a time for students to prepare for the ‘home stretch’ while making the necessary adjustments to solidify a successful outcome.”

The four-day weekend will not allow a lot of time for travel, however some students may choose to return home for a few days. Although some services, including the PRT, will not be available on campus Monday and Tuesday, the Student Recreation Center (regular hours on Saturday and Sunday; 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday), Mountainlair (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and libraries (normal business hours) will be open. Many dining halls will continue to serve food over fall break. For a complete list, visit: http://diningservices.wvu.edu/r/download/173585. Mountain Line will operate its regular bus routes. For routes and schedules, students can visit http://www.busride.org/. Other resources and services will also run on altered schedules, as they are heavily staffed by student workers.

Students are encouraged to check relevant websites for schedules for amended hours of operation for various services across campus. Students can visit the WVU online calendar for a comprehensive list of events scheduled during fall break.
