West Virginia University parents will have the chance to get a first-hand look at life as a WVU student as a part of the 2013 Fall Family Weekend.

Parents, siblings, grandparents and other loved ones will travel to Morgantown next weekend (Oct. 4-6) to reconnect with their Mountaineer and enjoy a fun-filled weekend with activities for the entire family.

“Fall Family Weekend is a wonderful opportunity for our families to spend time together while experiencing the great things our campus and community has to offer,” said Sabrina Cave, assistant vice president for Student Affairs Communications. “Parents can attend a class with their student, work out at the Student Recreation Center, share a meal on campus, and learn about their student’s favorite places and things to do in the community.

“This is a great time for the whole family to experience what it is truly like to be a Mountaineer.”

The weekend kicks off on Friday with several activities including a welcome reception, an open house at the Career Services Center, a Mountaineer Idol competition and WVUp All Night. Families can also explore downtown Morgantown for this year’s “Art is Food” event featuring area restaurants or the annual tradition of “Arts Walk.”

In addition, sports fans will have the opportunity to attend the Mountaineer women’s soccer game at 7 p.m. as the team takes on Texas at the Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, and the WVU club men’s hockey team will take on Liberty University at 9 p.m. at the ice rink located in White Park.

Mountaineer families can continue to enjoy a variety of events on Saturday. Families can start off the day by enjoying breakfast/brunch at their student’s residence hall while meeting their residence assistant, resident faculty leaders and their new friends.

Among other activities scheduled for Saturday, families can attend events at WVU Schools and Colleges and Family Day at the WVU Farm. The Mountaineer men’s soccer team will take on the Northern Illinois University Huskies at 6 p.m. and at 8 p.m. the Mountaineer Parents Club and the Mountaineer Maniacs will host a watch party for the Mountaineer football team game as they take on the Baylor Bears. The watch party will take place in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.
