As part of West Virginia University’s commitment to making its campus military friendly, Adventure WV is offering a trip this fall exclusively for WVU military veterans called Adventure Veterans Fall Break.

The trip is a four-day camping adventure at the New River Gorge from Oct. 12-15. Student veterans will have the opportunity to participate in some of the most exciting activities West Virginia has to offer during their three-night stay at the New River Gorge. Participants will rock climb on some of the most beautiful and challenging crags, hike to scenic overlooks, zip over the forest floor on a canopy/zip tour and raft down one of the state’s wild and scenic rivers.

All programs are free of cost for WVU military veteran students, and no previous experience is required to participate.

“Not only will our student veterans have an opportunity to participate in thrilling outdoor activities, they will have the opportunity to connect with other WVU military veteran students,” said Adventure WV veterans coordinator Nathan Harlan. “The trip is organized expedition style, which means the participants act as vital members of the crew. With the help of the trip leaders, participants set up their own tents, prepare food, paddle the down the rivers and contribute to the overall success of the trip.”

Adventure Veterans, a program of Adventure WV, connects student veterans, critical faculty and staff, as well as the University, and state of West Virginia to foster student success. The program is designed to support veteran success at WVU through a multi-day adventure experience and opportunities to stay involved throughout the remainder of the semester.

Ten spots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis for next month’s trip. For more information and to register, visit http://adventureorientation.wvu.edu/our_programs/adventure-veterans/freshman.
