The West Virginia University Student Affairs Office of Student Success and Retention Programs will host the Mid-Term Crunch, a free tutoring event, to prepare students for midterms on Monday (Sept. 30) from 6-10 p.m. in the Rhododendron Room of the Mountainlair.

“Midterm is considered a time for instructors to give students an informal assessment of their work and most importantly alert students experiencing difficulty in a course,” said Courtney Teets, program coordinator for Student Success and Retention Programs. “This event is designed to help students build confidence and motivation through free tutoring. Our success coaches will also be on hand to teach students test-taking strategies and methods for beating test anxiety. Our goal is to help WVU students stay enrolled and graduate in a timely manner.”

Gretel, the Carruth Center for Psychological and Psychiatric Services service dog, will also be there to greet students and help alleviate any stress or anxiety regarding upcoming midterms.

At the event, students may also pick up a free No. 2 pencil and a Scantron sheet to help them prepare for that upcoming exam. Refreshments, prizes and other giveaways will be available.

The Academic Resource Centers provide free walk-in tutoring for many subjects offered at WVU, such as math, biology, chemistry, geology, physics, statistics, general engineering and Chinese. Tutoring on other subjects is available upon request. For hours and locations, visit http://retention.wvu.edu/academic_resource_centers.
