More than one hundred graduates are expected to gather in Morgantown this weekend to celebrate their 50th anniversary as West Virginia University alumni.

The Class of 1963 and other 50+ year graduates will attend the 2013 Graduate Emeritus Weekend June 7-8 at Lakeview Golf Resort and Spa. The event, hosted by the WVU Alumni Association, will include various activities and events geared toward re-engaging alumni.

“The Graduate Emeritus event allows our alumni to reunite with old friends and their beloved alma mater,” said Bill Douglas, president-elect, Graduate Emeritus. “We love giving these graduates an event they can remember and associate with their WVU memories as alumni.”

Alumni attending the event will have an abundance of programs and activities to experience throughout the weekend. A golf outing begins Friday morning to kick off the first day of the weekend. Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy a number of programs including presentations on the history of the WVU Marching Band, Campus Wide Wellness, Student Life Today and the Mysteries of Alzheimer’s Disease. A casual meet and greet barbecue, followed by a presentation on the upcoming plans for Greek Life, will conclude the night.

Saturday, graduates will start the day with brunch, and then will be able to take a tour of the campus through the WVU Visitors Center to see the changes the university has made since they left Morgantown. The afternoon will feature discussions about WVU’s athletic changes, presented by former football players Ken Herock, John Skinner, and Jay Jacobs, and a look at the changing landscape of higher education presented by President Emeritus David C. Hardesty Jr.

The Graduate Emeritus dinner and induction ceremony will be held Saturday evening and includes remarks from President James P. Clements and Jackson & Kelly Professor of Law Forest “Jack” Bowman. The evening will conclude with a dessert reception hosted by the WVU Foundation. For a full schedule of events and information regarding the weekend, visit the Graduate Emeritus web page.

The Emeritus group began with 20 charter members in 1951 and has grown to more than 2,500 members. A dedicated group of volunteers work together to plan and coordinate this event every year. For more information about this special celebration, contact the WVU Alumni Association at 304-293-4731.
