“Great speakers are a valuable asset, especially on a college campus. You can learn from them, emulate them and use them as prominent figures in the careers you want to have for yourselves.”

Those are the words of Jose (Zito) Sartarelli, Milan Puskar Dean of the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics for business school students and all students on WVU’s campuses. Those are also the words behind a strong and full fall schedule for the B&E Distinguished Speaker Series.

“Our goal has always been to bring in highly successful speakers who can serve as great examples for our students,” Sartarelli said. “The speakers we have scheduled for the fall certainly do that and more.”

The fall B&E Distinguished Speaker Series includes:

  • Larry Mazza, president & CEO, MVB Bank, Sept. 11
  • John Mork, president & CEO, Energy Corp. of America, Sept. 27
  • Lorenzo Simonelli, president & CEO, GE Transportation, Oct. 18
  • Brett Harvey, chairman & CEO, CONSOL Energy Inc., Nov. 6
  • Ralph Baxter, chairman & CEO, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliff LLC, Dec. 3

“We really believe this is an exciting lineup of speakers,” said Sartarelli. “The level of participation by students has always reflected the quality of the speakers we have presented, and we think they’ll take advantage of listening to and interacting with these dynamic individuals.”

Dr. Karen Donovan, B&E associate dean for academic affairs, said participation by students and the University community has been high.

“We’ve seen great participation not only by students at the business school, but also by students at other colleges on campus,” Donovan said. “We also welcome faculty and staff from the WVU community and the general public, and that response has been fantastic. The feedback we’ve received tells us our past events have been valuable learning experiences.”
