West Virginia University’s College of Education and Human Services has recognized five graduate students for their research with scholarships for the Spring 2013 semester. Each student was reviewed by the college’s Committee on Research, Service & Professional Development.

Three master’s and two doctoral students were selected for the Spring 2013 semester.

Master’s students:

Debra Blaacker of Morgantown, W.Va., Child Development & Family Studies major, $500 Wirt C. and Mae S. Belcher Graduate Education Award

Alyssa Iannamorelli of Uniontown, Pa., Counseling major, $500 Wirt C. and Mae S. Belcher Graduate Education Award

Katie Rasmussen of Draper, Utah, Educational Psychology major, $500 Wirt C. and Mae S. Belcher Graduate Education Award

Doctoral students:

Brandi Weekley of Fairmont, W.Va., Education major, $1000 John J. Paterson Research Support Award

Dana Cihelkova of Praha, Czech Republic, Education major, $500 Wirt C. and Mae S. Belcher Graduate Education Award.

Each semester, the RSPD Committee awards research grants to promising CEHS scholars who have submitted in-depth applications with research budgets. They can be used for purposes to further research, such as travel or equipment. The awards are funded by private endowments through the WVU Foundation.

“The committee was impressed with the quality of this semester’s applications. We are proud to be able to provide these students with funding to continue their research efforts,” said Melissa Sherfinski, assistant professor in the Curriculum and Instruction/Literacy Studies Department at the college.
