The West Virginia University Figure Skating Club will host a Festival on Ice performance at the Morgantown Ice Arena on Dec. 23.

Tickets to the performance, which will begin at 5:30 p.m., are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Twenty-one skaters will perform routines to holiday songs.

All proceeds will benefit the Mason-Dixon Figure Skating Club, a Morgantown-based organization dedicated to offering young people the chance to perform in shows and exhibitions as well as to test at various skill levels through the U.S. Figure Skating Association.

The Festival on Ice will feature WVU’s skating club president, Angela Kreger, who recently graduated from WVU with a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree and is now pursuing a master’s in nursing at the University, and Alicia Marcucci, who graduated from WVU in 2010 with a degree in theater. Both women are widely considered the area’s best figure skaters.

Kreger, who started skating not long after she learned to walk, is a U.S. Figure Skating gold medalist in moves in the field and freeskating. Marcucci has been skating for 16 years with the Mason-Dixon Figure Skating Club and is a U.S. Figure Skating gold medalist in moves in the field. Both Kreger and Marcucci will perform solos in the show.

“The Festival on Ice will be a great event for all ages,” said Kreger. “It’s rare to be able to see local figure skaters perform, and these skaters put time and money into being the best skaters possible. This will be a wonderful event to see.”

Another featured performer, Shaun Adams, who is double majoring in architecture and graphics technology at Fairmont State University, has been skating for 14 years and coaching and doing choreography for six years.

The director of WVU’s Creative Writing Program, Mark Brazaitis, a professor in the Department of English and the faculty advisor to the WVU Figure Skating Club, is writing the show’s script and will serve as the show’s announcer.
