The West Virginia University Dance Program is presenting an informal concert at the Creative Arts Center called “Celebration of Dance,” Thursday and Friday, Dec. 6 and 7. The event is a culmination of this semester’s creative work by choreographers and dancers from the program.

There will be two performances on Thursday, Dec. 6—at 7 p.m. and at 9 p.m.—and one on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Antoinette Falbo Theatre at the Creative Arts Center. Seating is general admission and all tickets are $9.

“This dance concert is a presentation of original student work,” said Yoav Kaddar, director of the Dance Program. “There are eleven pieces on the program and all were created by dance minors in the WVU Dance Program. Student choreographers have been working on these pieces for the past eight weeks.”

The program offers a variety of styles of dance from hip-hop to jazz, from more classical influenced movement, to contemporary. There are solos, duets, trios and larger group ensembles performing in this collection of new works by WVU aspiring choreographers.

Kaddar said this concert serves as a starting point for the main WVU dance production in spring.

“About a handful of the works featured in this concert will be included in the fully produced Dance Now! concert at the Lyell B. Clay Theatre March 14-16,” he said. “Come enjoy some wonderful choreography and dancing by our own WVU students. This celebration of dance is a wonderful and joyful way to end the semester and begin the holiday season.”

Tickets for the dance concert may be purchased by calling (304) 293-SHOW or visiting the WVU Box Office at the Mountainlair or the Creative Arts Center.
