Jam band favorite Umphrey’s McGee will perform an innovative and energetic concert at The Metropolitan Theatre Feb. 14. Showtime is set for 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale Friday, Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. at the West Virginia University Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center Box Offices, ticketmaster.com and by phone at 800-745-3000 or 304-293-SHOW.
A mainstay on the jam band scene and the festival circuit, Umphrey’s McGee has been blowing crowds away since 1997 with marathon concerts mixing their innovative sound and cutting-edge technology. The group’s characteristic funk is an eclectic mix of the traditional jam sound meshed with strong progressive-rock elements in the style of Phish and The Grateful Dead. Umphrey’s McGee isn’t easily categorized as one simple genre. The group dabbles in jazz, bluegrass, electronica and everything in between with plenty of on-stage improvisation.
“Umphrey’s McGee stand revealed as consummate musical alchemists, deftly reconfiguring sounds from rock’s vast panoply of styles,” says Entertainment Weekly.
The band has been a festival favorite since the first Bonnaroo Music Festival in 2002, traveling across the country in years following to festivals like All Good and The Austin City Limits Music Festival. Umphrey’s McGee has released seven studio albums, with its latest release “Death By Stereo” in September 2011. The album features a mix of both popular on-stage songs and new tunes, including “Miami Virtue,” “Domino Theory” and “Booth Love.”
