West Virginia University will be offering an evening of traditional holiday festivities this year at the Mountainlair Student Union.

WVU’s Holiday Community Night will take place on Nov. 30 from 6-8 p.m. Hosted by Ms. Mountaineer, Hilah Zia, the event will feature a visit from Santa Claus, free refreshments and entertainment provided by the 2012 Mountaineer Idols and String of Pearls. Children’s activities and discounted bowling will also be available.

Across the way, Woodburn Hall will feature a gold and blue lighting scheme surrounding the entire building to add holiday cheer.

Participants will have the opportunity to donate new, unwrapped toys that will be used to build Toy Mountain, an annual tradition in the Mountainlair. The toys will be delivered to Christian Help for distribution to area families.

Student Organization Services and the Student Government Association will be collecting funds for Students Helping Other People, an event to take place on Dec. 8 where WVU students take local children ages 6-12 shopping at Super K-Mart.

“The holiday season is a time for West Virginia University to focus on our caring Morgantown community through programs like SHOP and Toy Mountain,” said Stephanie Ballard Conrad, director of University Events. “This event will celebrate the giving spirit of our students, faculty and staff, along with the magic of the holiday season with fun activities for everyone.”

The event is free and open to the WVU and Morgantown communities.
