Andrew Shea, a nationally known graphic designer, will present a visiting artist lecture at the West Virginia University School of Art & Design, Thursday, Nov. 8.

He will speak at 5 p.m. in the Creative Arts Center’s Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (200A). The event is free and open to the public.

Shea is a multidisciplinary graphic designer and writer living in New York City. His projects have involved designing identities, motion graphics, web sites, exhibition graphics and publications.

He also teaches design courses at Maryland Institute College of Art, Fordham University, and Parsons The New School for Design.

Shea’s design projects address social problems in ways that could spur lasting social change.

In addition, he is an avid writer and has written for organizations such as Core77, Change Observer, AIGA, and Designer’s Review of Books.

His recent book, “Designing for Social Change” was published by Princeton Architectural Press and features strategies that can help community-based graphic design projects become more effective. It includes 20 projects from around the country.

The book is popular among designers and is currently being used by Eve Faulkes, WVU graphic design professor, for one of her courses.
