The North Central Region of the American Association of Agricultural Educators recently recognized a West Virginia University professor with its Outstanding Agricultural Educator award.

Harry Boone, professor of agricultural and extension education in the WVU Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design, was honored during the organization’s conference in Champaign, Ill., earlier in October.

The Outstanding Agricultural Educator award is presented annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions over the years to agricultural education.

An agricultural educator of 35 years, Boone has established himself at the regional and national levels as a leader in teaching, research and service.

He has served the national organization and regional chapter of the American Association of Agricultural Educators in various capacities including chair of the association’s research committee and member of the professional ethics committee, as well as chair of the North Central chapter’s poster presentations and program improvement committee.

This is not the first time Boone has been recognized by the organization. In 2004, he was named Outstanding Early Career Agricultural Educator for the North Central Region. In 2002, he received an award of the same name and the Outstanding Publication Award for the Eastern Region.

In addition to his involvement with the association, Boone also works closely with FFA (formerly Future Farmers of America) and was awarded the National FFA VIP Citation and an Honorary American FFA degree for his efforts.

At the state level, he serves as co-coordinator of the West Virginia FFA Career Development Events and as Results Coordinator for the Agriculture Career Development Events, the WV Beef Expo, the 4-H Dairy Contest, the 4-H Livestock Contest and the Equine Contest.
The American Association of Agricultural Educators is dedicated to studying, applying and promoting the teaching and learning processes in agriculture. It also serves as an advocate for improvement of teaching and learning in agriculture.
